Automatic gates have become increasingly popular among real
estate owners as they don’t require you to get out of your car and open the
gate and close them as you get in. A mere touch of a button and your gate opens
or closes on its own.
Problems With
Your Electric Gate
It’s obvious that wherever there are moving parts, there is
a possibility of failure. The more the moving parts, the more the chances of
failure. We’ll cover all the common problems that can help you with your
electric gate repair.
As there are more than one moving parts in an electric gate,
there can be a ton of possibilities why your gate is not responding, some of
them might not even be mechanical in nature. It could be anything, from a
faulty remote to the electric motor malfunctioning.
So without any further ado, here are some common problems
and how to fix them
Noisy Electric
Gate
A noisy electric gate is quite common, especially if you do
not take much care of your gate or the climate is humid and there are a lot of
rains. Mostly the reason for the noise is grinding, look for where the noise is
coming from. And check for any signs of rust. If there is rust, using some sort
of rust dissolver like WD-40 can significantly reduce the noise. Make sure you
lubricate the area with some heavy-duty lubricant, even if there is no visible
sign of rust. Lubricating eliminates most mechanical noises.
If the noise is coming from your motor, it could be that
your motors brushes need replacing. If your motor requires frequent brush
replacement then you should probably opt of a modern brushless motor. Gate
motor installation might require the help of a professional.
Replacing old chain systems with belt systems can also
significantly reduce noise.
Faulty Remote
Control
If your gate is not opening, rather than just jumping to
conclusions and looking for electric gate motor repair services, check for the
small problems. Most of the time, the problem can be caused by simple things
like low batteries in your remote. Most remotes have a convenient light on them
that shows whether the remote is operating. If there is no light, use a
smartphone camera to look at that LED that you point at the gate. It should
blink if the remote is working. If the remote is not working, try changing its
batteries. If changing batteries do not work. You might need to change the
remote.
Sensors
Every electric gate has some sort of sensor. There is a
motion sensor for gates that are motion-triggered. There is an infrared sensor
for remote based gates. And these sensors need to clean and there shouldn’t be
anything that blocks the sensor from detecting whatever it is supposed to
detect. Locate your sensor and clean it.
